  • Overview

    Processing instruments and equipment plays an integral part in achieving our mission to provide safe patient care. SPD Techs, and every process performed in the sterile processing department (SPD), has an impact on patient safety. Demonstrating and assessing competencies permit everyone in the SPD to ensure that the instruments and equipment used for patients will not cause infection.  Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall currently has an opening for a Sterile Processing Tech PRN.

    Responsibilities

    Processes, issues, and controls medical supplies, devices and equipment, both sterile and nonsterile, for patient care areas.

    Reprocessing responsibilities include decontamination, disinfection, preparation, packaging, sterilization, sterile storage, and distribution.

     

    Sterile Processing Technician will be knowledgable about processes in the following areas:

    • Point of use/transporting soiled instruments
    • Cleaning and decontamination
    • Assembly and packaging
    • Sterilization
    • Sterilization monitoring
    • Storage

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Related experience preferred
    • Certification preferred
    • Requires knowledge of Federal and State regulatory agency standards related to health care organizations. 
    • Cognitive and technical knowledge and ability to progressively manage care delivery across the continuum of care. 
    • The ability to retrieve, communicate and present data and information both verbally and in writing required; as is the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written work. 
    • Must be flexible with work schedule, rotating call and some weekends required.
