  • Overview

    Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Medical Technologist/MLT Point-of-Care (POC)/ Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Coordinator will oversee the operations of the laboratory information systems to ensure high quality laboratory service and satisfy all accrediting agency requirements.


    • Monitors and maintains LIS functions (test menu, billing, interfaces). 
    • Assists in the installation of instrument interfaces. 
    • Manages the development of testing plans for any changes to the LIS or other areas where there is a change in the systems, software, interfaces, forms, formats, policies, procedures which would impact the LIS or any computer supported functions related to the laboratory. 
    • Participates and provides input on all decisions related to LIS. 
    • Ensures system security measures meet HIPAA requirements. 
    • Maintains a detailed knowledge of systems currently operational at SAHS. 
    • Evaluates, installs, configures, tests and updates computing hardware and software systems. 
    • Demonstrates knowledge of HL7 order/result interfaces. 
    • Tests software updates on LIS to ensure processing of patient results is accurate and reliable before software or test modifications are moved to production.
    • Will also be required to work the bench and performs a wide range of testing on specimens using highly complex, automated systems in the areas of Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Blood Bank and Urinalysis.


    Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.
    Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) preferred.

    2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist Generalist preferred. 

    1 year of experience and familiarity with Cerner laboratory information systems preferred.


    Must have experience in human relations, communications, and project management skills.
    Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
